Fall Away
I had it all and it was mine alone
I had the stars, the moon, my dreams
We all want to have the beauty of life
Perhaps we all do at some point
We pull it in and hold it close
We raise it up and hold it high
We love and cherish and drink in its wonder
And then it all falls away
Life is made of dreams and the world of need
We desire the dust that gives us happiness
We want what it takes to fill our hearts
We hide in our minds, immersed in fictitious life
A cloak of fantasy keeps us warm at night
This keeps us real, this keeps us here
It stays until we need it most
And then it all falls away
The world is a beautiful gem cloaked in black velvet
Suspended in a sky that is our security
Kept company by beautiful stars smiling down on us
When will the stars fall to earth?
Is it then I shall be remembered
When the earth crumbles around me
When everything falls away
Is it I who will be still standing?
Or will I too fall away
What is Only Time
The rain falls gently
Cleansing me of the day
From whence children play
And old men sit and
Speak of time long past.
Now here I stay alone
Gazing at a moon of stone
And cold nights filled with
Remembering what I once had
While bones are not broken
Time has most certainly spoken
And we are ancient and frail
Bodies that will fall soon.
As a token of a one-time lover
I give you the moon for cover
So that at least you’ll have
The night for company in the end
And it will hover beside you
Reminding you what is true
And what is only time
Cleansing me of the day
From whence children play
And old men sit and
Speak of time long past.
Now here I stay alone
Gazing at a moon of stone
And cold nights filled with
Remembering what I once had
While bones are not broken
Time has most certainly spoken
And we are ancient and frail
Bodies that will fall soon.
As a token of a one-time lover
I give you the moon for cover
So that at least you’ll have
The night for company in the end
And it will hover beside you
Reminding you what is true
And what is only time
